Scoop.it Content Director helps you create beautiful newsletters in a few minutes, by drag-and-dropping the pieces of content you want to include. The newsletter editor produces email-compliant HTML that can then be used in any email or marketing automation platform.
To import the resulting email newsletter to Marketo, follow these step-by-step instructions:
1/ Generate your email newsletter
From Scoop.it Content Director's top bar, choose Manage and then Newsletter to select a template and create your newsletter. For details on the newsletter creation process, read this article.
2/ Export your newsletter
Once you're done editing, you can click on "Export", freeze the newsletter and click on "Get HTML code". Select all the code and copy it.
3/ Create a new email in Marketo Design Studio
Next, go to Marketo Design Studio and create a new email using the Blank template:
4/ Edit the Marketo blank email with your newsletter's HTML code
Once the email is created, click on Edit Draft in the Email menu to enter the email edit mode. From there, select Email Actions > HTML Tools > Replace HTML:
In the following pop-up, select the entire HTML and click paste to replace it with the HTML of your Scoop.it-generated newsletter:
Click Save and your newsletter is now a Marketo email that you can use in any campaign or workflow:
Optional: how to use Marketo personalization tokens?
To use Marketo personalization tokens in the body of your email newsletter, simply add them in Scoop.it Content Director through the editing process.
For instance, let's say you'd like your newsletter to start by greeting recipients with their first name in a welcome message. As you create your newsletter, you can add the personalization token:
anywhere in the template of your email newsletter. In this example, we'll add it in the welcome message which is a text widget of our template:
Once added, Marketo will interpret it and replace the personalization token by the corresponding value.
To retrieve a Marketo personalization token instead of typing it, open the Insert Token box (in the email edit view, you can click on the icon from any of the email fields at the top, eg "Subject"):
And then type in the variables of the token you'd like to retrieve, for instance "first":
Add a default value if needed then click Insert and copy the corresponding result, eg:
so that you can paste it in your Scoop.it Content Director email newsletter.
This Marketo article also lists the various personalization tokens you might want to use.
Note: if you're always using the same personalization token in multiple emails, we can add it to your Scoop.it Content Director email template so that you won't have to repeat this process with each and every new email newsletter.
